Seattle is a seaport city on the west coast of the United States. It is the seat of King County, Washington. For many reasons, Seattle can be an optimal spot for older adults to live in:

  1. Healthcare facilities: Seattle has renowned medical centers and hospitals, including the University of Washington Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center. These facilities provide access to quality healthcare services and specialized treatments.

  2. Programs and Services: Seattle has a range of programs and services for older adults, including senior centers, community organizations, and social activities. One example is Aging and Disability Services (ADS), which plans, coordinates, and advocates for a comprehensive service delivery system for older adults, family caregivers and people with disabilities in King County. ADS provides a key link between federal and state funding for services for older residents and family caregivers in the Seattle-King County area and the community-based organizations that deliver the services. ADS is committed to helping communities become more age-friendly under criteria established by AARP and the World Health Organization. ADS promotes evidence-based programs in the Seattle-King County area that can keep you moving and help you stay connected.

  3. Cultural attractions and recreational opportunities: Seattle is known for its rich arts and cultural scene, with theaters, museums, art galleries, and music venues. The city also offers beautiful parks, green spaces, and outdoor recreational activities, providing opportunities for leisure and physical activity.

  4. Walkability and public transportation: Many neighborhoods in Seattle are walkable, with pedestrian-friendly streets and access to public transportation, including buses and light rail. This can make it easier for older adults to navigate the city and reach various destinations.

  5. Mild climate: Seattle has a mild climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. The temperate weather may be appealing to older adults who prefer milder temperatures and fewer extremes.

It's a very safe neighborhood, no violence. There's a middle school and grocery stores around, easy bus routes and a delicious fruit stand up the street!
