As a social worker here in Phoenix and surrounding cities, I had the opportunity to discover that the greater Phoenix area appears to be somewhat to moderately age friendly. I attribute this to several reasons: a diversity in cultures where family elders are respected and remain a part of the family; a variety of communities from private gated communities, to smaller older neighborhoods, colleges and community centers where elders can continue their education and meet for socializing, city parks, a multitude of small businesses that hire elders, handy public transit, health/medical centers, and retail stores.
