Real Estate is unaffordable to middle class and low income and elderly. Property taxes go up at high rates because of too many sport arena projects. Now they want to raise property taxes for a 5 billion dollar train system. The real estate overbuilding of multiple housing units on properties that had one house on it being split into several skinny houses on it is the root cause of the transportation problem in Nashville. Do not raise my property taxes because of your stupidity in planning for this population explosion in Nashville and surrounding areas without any regard to jobs in each community for easy commute to work. Parking downtown is lacking due to apartments being overbuilt all over town. Where are the jobs for these people you are bringing in to live in these overpriced housing options.

Nashville exploded over night with a younger population. This growth has pushed seniors out of their neighborhoods and out of the job market and generally out of everything. Finding housing in Nashville for a senior is nigh on impossible and transportation is at a minimum unless you can use the bus or get on Accessride. The bus service doesn't take you everywhere you need to go either. If it weren't for a few organizations such as FiftyForward here in Nashville, seniors would be without much needed social services and assistance. There are in-home care agencies but unless you have the money to pay their rates with, you don't have in-home help. You can't knock Nashville for it's educational opportunities for seniors, however. Most schools offer discounts or free courses. As to getting involved in your community, you can do so through FiftyForward's Foster Grandparent program, or RSVP or FLIP and other programs like them. As a whole I have watched Nashville go from a pleasant laid -back Music City over the past 30 years to a fast paced, crowded, Millennial Generation hub where driving laws are discarded, friendliness to the elderly is gone and the whole reason people said it was a "Good place to live" has disappeared with the influx of 'Out of State-ers'. I wouldn't recommend moving here or even staying here if you can help it. This isn't the Nashville your Daddy knew or grew up in.

Rent is going up rapidly and not enough full-time office jobs for 55+ people. Older people pushed into low wage jobs like hotel, retail and restaurant.
