As a 50-year resident, from college days through raising a family, now as an older adult, I believe Evanston to be among the age-friendliest communities in the country. Yes, we have challenges, particularly in the area of affordable housing, but residents and civic leaders are working together to address our shortcomings. I hope to be able to live out my life here.
Evanston is a college town, but it also houses a number of retirement communities, two hospitals, an old YMCA, and benefits from plenty of public transportation; Metra, the "L", and city buses. One of the most wonderful aspects of living here, is that everybody belongs, no matter their age, race, or social status. It's a very inclusive town, however a bit expensive to live in.
