Evanston is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 12 miles north of downtown Chicago, bordered by Chicago to the south, Skokie to the west, and Wilmette to the north

The purpose of a Commission on Aging is to promote the welfare and betterment of the seniors of the city. The Evanston Commission on Aging has established housing and transportation programs that enhance the ability of seniors to remain in their own homes and advocacy programs that protect the rights of long-term care residents. The Commission sponsors educational forums and provides information about the array of senior services available in Evanston.

Clear Filters

Easy access (by foot, car, bus, train) to shopping, museums, art centers, library, music venues, etc. Multiple senior living facilities and senior centers. Several learning programs targeted to seniors. In addition, a university town (Northwestern University) offering interaction with students/programs via theater, music and art museums.
Need work.
The people in the community are nice and it's people of all ages and the neighborhood is quiet and pretty
because people are not racist

How did Illinois earn the grade of C+? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. Illinois has a state sales tax of 6.25%. Of particular interest is that Illinois does not have taxes on social security. There are estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance.
