I have lived here for almost 34 years and I have always had positive experiences, no matter what my age. The restaurants are all family oriented and bringing my children up here was a good fit in my neighborhood in Greenwood. I love Lake Quannapowitt and the Gazebo, where my son and his wife took some wedding pictures. I have taken many a Christmas picture anywhere along the lake to send out cards.

Neighbors are all friendly when you meet them. They greet everyone they see on the street. Small cul-de-sac with small number of homes. All professional adults.

How did Massachusetts earn the grade of C? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. Massachusetts has a state sales tax of 6.25%. Of particular interest is that Massachusetts does not have taxes on social security. There are estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance. Massachusetts has an effective property tax rate of 1.21%. Weighing these taxes and other taxes most likely to impact the aging population is how Massachusetts earned its state tax grade of C.
