I know from working in the retirement services industry that Springfield has high-level care facilities for older populations, whether that's with independent, long-term, or hospice care. Springfield has a wonderful public transportation bus system and highly ranked hospital, Sacred Heart, located in it. The neighborhoods are generally safe, crime-free, and family friendly. The University of Oregon and Lane Community College are a short drive outside of the city for further educational pursuits.
