North Port is not age friendly. Rents have become extremely high; the same cost as the suburbs of Boston in the last 5 years.Rents have jumped from $600 per month to over $1,400 per month over the last 10 years. If you are unable to buy, you are unable to live here on retirement. Home prices have risen from $60,000 to $169,000. A 2 bedroom cannot be found under $1,000 a now and those are few and far between. Jobs are very hard to find for retirees now. They have all been taken by younger people needing to pay those higher rents. As the City keeps courting the Younger Population with perqs like the Baseball park driving up rents and the costs of homes, jobs have become extremely hard to find for retirees. City: If you are 55, the City gives you a break on some memberships. If you are 50 to 54 you pay full price; and it is very steep indeed on city memberships. Your tax dollars pay for City Memberships; yet with the cost of living here you can't afford a membership to the city facilities. North Port has become Sarasota. Unaffordable, unlivable and will soon be a case of the Haves and Have Nots here too.
