Many people retire and live in Mesa or other parts of the East Valley. There is a large number of hospitals, medical centers, specialists, and general practitioners here, primarily due to the "Winter Visitors" that come down here from the northern US and Canada during our winters. Many of these visitors take care of their medical issues while here.
On the other hand, this is an extremely hot climate, not well suited for many elderly visitors. Public transportation is sporadic. You really need a car, expecially in the summer.
