Mason City is a city in and the county seat of Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, United States. The population was 28,079 in the 2010 census, a decline from 29,172 in the 2000 census. The Mason City Micropolitan Statistical Area includes all of Cerro Gordo and Worth counties. It is commonly referred to as the "River City", as the city grew up centered on the Winnebago River.

There are lots of local businesses for shopping and maintenance nearby and good retirement and nursing homes available for those who have reached retirement age and want to maintain independence but may need an extra hand with certain tasks and chores. There are also transportation options such as taxis and buses.

I haven't encountered any discrimination based on age, so far.
Mason city isn't age friendly for younger population. There isn't very much for the younger generation to do. So therefore I believe kids get into a lot of trouble.
