I would personally not recommend Boyle heights to my older crowd of friends given the fact that resent is through the roof in this area traffic is terrible. Although there are many resources close but such as the Social Security office and many forms of transportation such as buses and trains.
Friendly environment
Los Angeles is a diversified community and there are various hospitals relatively close by.
The Miracle Mike is the hub for museums, restaurants and entertainment in LA. The Wishire bus keeps you connected from Koreatown to Westwood to the Beach. The Grove and Farmer's Market are also highlights of the neighborhood.
