Las Vegas, officially the City of Las Vegas and often known simply as Vegas, is the 28th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County.

The city anchors the Las Vegas Valley metropolitan area and is the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert. Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife. The Las Vegas Valley as a whole serves as the leading financial, commercial, and cultural center for Nevada.

The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its mega casino–hotels and associated activities. It is a top three destination in the United States for business conventions and a global leader in the hospitality industry, claiming more AAA Five Diamond hotels than any other city in the world.

Today, Las Vegas annually ranks as one of the world's most visited tourist destinations. The city's tolerance for numerous forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and has made Las Vegas a popular setting for literature, films, television programs, and music videos. Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and officially incorporated in 1911. At the close of the 20th century, it was the most populated American city founded within that century (a similar distinction earned by Chicago in the 1800s).

Population growth has accelerated since the 1960s, and between 1990 and 2000 the population nearly doubled, increasing by 85.2%. Rapid growth has continued into the 21st century, and according to a 2017 estimate, the population is 648,224 with a regional population of 2,248,390.

"Las Vegas" is often used to describe areas beyond official city limits—especially the areas on and near the Las Vegas Strip, which is actually located within the unincorporated communities of Paradise, Winchester, and Enterprise.

Yes, because it is in the heart of the city. It is very quiet and most of my neighbors have been living here 20 years or more. Also is is very close to 2 hospitals and Medical practice offices. So, if you are in need of medical treatment, it is very close abd accessible by foot. If you drive, my neigborhood is close to two major freeways. I would definitely recommend my neighborhood to anyone.

Many 55+ and retirees relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the pleasant weather (no snow, no humidity). Along with exempting all income at the state level, Nevada also has incredibly low property taxes and no state tax. While sales tax in Nevada is slightly higher than average, all things considered Nevada has some of the lowest taxes for seniors in the entire country, making it an ideal place for seniors to retire. One of the top cities in Nevada for retirees, Las Vegas Valley offers easy access to world-class entertainment and dining, year-round sunshine, no income tax—which includes Social Security and pensions—and more. There are many 55+ communities that have a myriad of activities, for example; golf, swimming classes, yoga, restaurants and bars, theaters for community performances, outside activities such as day trips and more. Most of them offer transportation to casinos and shopping. There are many caregiver agencies here that offer medical assistance and every type of care for seniors and their families. We have medical practices that focus on senior needs specifically. Many seniors here volunteer at hospitals and other facilities, and the school system always needs volunteers. The Las Vegas Valley has thousands of hotel/casino jobs that employ seniors, as well as the expanding airport positions, many are union jobs. There are many choices for education, including the Community College of Nevada and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, as well as technical schools that are all open for senior attendance. There is public transportation for the disabled, for example, they board at their homes and are taken wherever they need to go. Now that we have Uber and Lyft many are using this mode of transportation for convenience. There are senior centers in almost every community in the valley, usually in parks. They offer a myriad of activities and social opportunities for seniors where otherwise they would not be available to them. There are private pay senior centers that offer the mentally and/or physically disabled specialized activities with individualized attention and care. I am very blessed that I live here in Las Vegas and that I have the opportunity, as a senior, to take advantage of all that my community offers. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a good life in retirement to consider this unique place in the country. Las Vegas is full of opportunities for seniors and their families, and I plan to stay active and age gracefully!
