El Cajon (; Spanish: [elkaˈxon]) is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. In a valley surrounded by mountains, the city has acquired the nickname of "The Big Box." Its name originated similarly, from the Spanish phrase "el cajón," which means "the box" or "the drawer."

The community is very welcoming and engaging.
I believe this is a good neighborhood. However, people tend to keep to themselves. A simple "hello" would be exchanged whenever passing another, but besides that, there's not much going on on a conversational level here.
It is easy to get almost anywhere without a car, bus drivers just need to get close to the curb so Seniors can step off not jump off.
I was much younger when I was attending college. So I cannot say how friendly or unfriendly they were.
There are several senior mobilehome parks in the area.
