Brooklyn is the most populous borough of New York City. The borough continues, however, to maintain a distinct culture. Many Brooklyn neighborhoods are ethnic enclaves. Brooklyn's official motto, displayed on the Borough seal and flag, is Eendraght Maeckt Maght which translates from early modern Dutch as "Unity makes strength". Since 2010, Brooklyn has evolved into a thriving hub of entrepreneurship and high technology startup firms, and of postmodern art and design. Brooklyn can be a desirable place for older adults to live for many reasons:

  1. Healthcare facilities: Brooklyn is home to numerous world-class hospitals and medical centers, including Maimonides Medical Center and NYU Langone Health. These facilities provide access to a wide range of healthcare services and specialized treatments.

  2. Accessibility and transportation: Brooklyn benefits from a comprehensive transportation network, including subway lines, buses, and accessible options. This can make it easier for older adults to navigate the city and access various neighborhoods, healthcare facilities, and cultural attractions.

  3. Cultural and recreational opportunities: Brooklyn is renowned for its vibrant arts, music, and cultural scene. The borough offers numerous museums, galleries, theaters, and performance venues, providing ample opportunities for entertainment, enrichment, and engagement in cultural activities.

  4. Neighborhood diversity: Brooklyn is known for its diverse neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and charm. Older adults can find neighborhoods that suit their preferences, whether it's a bustling urban environment or a quieter residential area.

  5. Walkability and amenities: Many neighborhoods in Brooklyn are highly walkable, with access to parks, shops, restaurants, and community services. There are other amenities, such as age-friendly parks and centers with programs and activities.

  6. Cost of living: It's important to note that the cost of living in Brooklyn can be relatively high compared to many other parts of the country. Housing costs, taxes, and daily expenses may be higher, and it's essential to consider personal financial circumstances.

My neighborhood is very diverse, we have residents who have lived here over 20 years. Our neighborhood is also gentrified, with lots of new establishments blending with businesses that have been here for years.

Our neighborhood is very age-friendly. We have many parks with welcoming benches and activities, a bocci ball court and a walking, jogging lane. The parks are well-lit and the shops are very friendly and price-friendly.

I think it is a community in which all types of people live and thrive. I have read that it is the most ethnically mixed neighborhood in the entire country. Everyone gets along, and the same is try of age. I am not so young any more, but I feel comfortable here. My neighbors are helpful, if they see me struggling to carry something heavy, for example.

There are parks & senior centers & transportation close by. A lot of senior citizens live in the neighborhood. Shopping is rather close & many stores have home delivery.

There are a lot of working adults and seniors living in this area. We get together periodically to discuss our community, current events, all that is happening in the world, our garden and the plants we prefer, family, friends, and the neighbors who walks by and will not acknowledge the greetings you send their way, and our most important discussions are about God, and Religion. For the most part, our neighbor hood and our neighbors, are awesome, I will not change it for the world.
