Norfolk ( NOR-fuuk, locally NOF-uuk) is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. At the 2010 census, the population was 242,803; in 2015, the population was estimated to be 247,189 making it the second-most populous city in Virginia after neighboring Virginia Beach. Norfolk is located at the core of the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, named for the large natural harbor of the same name located at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. It is one of nine cities and seven counties that constitute the Hampton Roads metro area, officially known as the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC MSA. The city is bordered to the west by the Elizabeth River and to the north by the Chesapeake Bay. It also shares land borders with the independent cities of Chesapeake to its south and Virginia Beach to its east. Norfolk is one of the oldest cities in Hampton Roads, and is considered to be the historic, urban, financial, and cultural center of the region. The city has a long history as a strategic military and transportation point. The largest Navy base in the world, Naval Station Norfolk, is located in Norfolk along with one of NATO's two Strategic Command headquarters. The city also has the corporate headquarters of Norfolk Southern Railway, one of North America's principal Class I railroads, and Maersk Line, Limited, which manages the world's largest fleet of US-flag vessels. As the city is bordered by multiple bodies of water, Norfolk has many miles of riverfront and bayfront property, including beaches on the Chesapeake Bay. It is linked to its neighbors by an extensive network of Interstate highways, bridges, tunnels, and three bridge-tunnel complexes, which are the only bridge-tunnels in the United States.

Everyone says hi even thou they don't know you. They have a lot of programs for middle age people which envolved a lot of physical activities and education.
in this area bus services are within walking distance. In Norfolk there's a senor center. Easy to get to walmarts and food lion and so many different eateries in this area. Lastly there a great fishing pier and 25 minutes drive to the worlds famous Virginia beach. In Norfolk, everything is here.
Very few resources for seniors who are in independent living. I checked out senior communities in Virginia Beach and Norfolk and found only 2 that were in my price range. I worked at a registered nurse my whole life so I thought my Social Security would provide at least a comfortable life, but I have struggled. The community I chose covered water and electricity, and now after 1 1/2 years of living here, we received notice we will now have to pay for water. Senior Services has few services for seniors like me. they seem to cater to Seniors with disabilities, like blindness. I looked for 2 years for a job when I got downsized from my last job. It was rare that I even got an interview. The interviews I had went very well (I had prepared for them) but even with my experience, I wasn't hired. I was told by many my resume was great, but it was evident that because of my age I wan't selected for the position. I have another friend who is going through the same thing. I had to give up my car because of the expense of keeping it up, including high property taxes and registration fees. I rode over to Portsmouth last summer to visit Olde Towne, forgetting about the bridge tolls. I am now receiving a bill for almost $60 for a 5 mile ride. I would take a bus, but I can't walk to the bus stops and I don't meet the requirements for special transport. Senior Services provides transport to medical appointments, but after talking with them (they were very nice) I had to change my appointment to fit it with their schedule and then couldn't reach anyone to confirm my appointment. They came at a time that I hadn't scheduled to take me to a place I wasn't familiar with. If I am falling through the cracks, I know others are in the same situation. We need help!
there is a park down the road within walking distance and there are community centers all over Norfolk there are always kids around playing with one other
too much armed crime
