Thermal is an unincorporated community within the Coachella Valley in Riverside County, California located approximately 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Palm Springs and about 9.5 miles (15.3 km) north of the Salton Sea. The community's elevation is 138 feet (42 m) below mean sea level. It is inside area code 760 and is in ZIP Code 92274. The population was 2,865 at the 2010 census. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Thermal a census-designated place (CDP), which does not precisely correspond to the historical community.

I believe it is. I'm 71 lived there 80%of m life. Took care of a quad, cancer, and dementia patients. No problem. I believe if you are honest and friendly then you should have no problems. On the other hand, people can get pretty nasty at times.

Thermal was more open country but now with the race track, and all the country club's, it's not so out there in the boonies as most people think. Yes we have farms, cattle and dates.

We are a friendly town. Not many gas stations, mostly country stores along the highway. I would like to see less trash along our roads but with the winds it just takes people "thinking" before they throw.

How did California earn the grade of C? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. California has a state sales tax of 7.25%. Of particular interest is that California does not have taxes on social security. There are no estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance. California has an effective property tax rate of 0.79%. Weighing these taxes and other taxes most likely to impact the aging population is how California earned its state tax grade of C.
