It depends upon many factors. If you need help and have family nearby, and most people do, it is easier than for those who do not. If you are not in need of any type of daily assistance, it's a nice quiet town.
There are multiple sources available for help ranging from governmental services, most of which are dispatched from Norwalk - about 15 miles away, to help from a neighbor. Several local churches have outreach programs to help those in need as well. In addition, there are local youth organizations like the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H clubs, etc. seeking out service to their community.
Crime rates are virtually nonexistent with the local Police department out and about to serve and protect the good people of the community.
Many residents have lived here since their school days even if those days were 60 - 70 years past. It's a friendly town with not much to do unless you choose to become actively involved in helping to make it a better place for others as well as yourself.
There is a good local grocery store, two gas station/convenience stores, a local newspaper that comes out weekly, a couple of pizza places and restaurants, McDonald's and Subway are the only current national franchise restaurants.
There are two medical offices, a Carnegie public library, a nursing home, a flower shop, and a funeral home all in town.
The New London Local School District is a good place for kids to learn and participate in a variety of extracurricular activities.
There is a lack of 5-star restaurants and a theatre district. There is no zoo unless you want to include some of the local farms or a Boy Scout campout. No aquarium unless you want to include the fishing and swimming at the Reservoir. The same for lodging unless the campground at the Reservoir and Recreation Parks are included.
Just remember that so much of life is what we make of it and if we want to be happy, it's our choice no matter the circumstances and just the same if we want to be miserable.
