Gilberts is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,279 at the 2000 census. The population has grown to 6,879 according to the 2010 census. The population continues to grow at rapid rates.
The town has been documented as being in a near perpetual state of winter by farmer’s almanac with winters extending as late as mid-June. Gilberts is known to receive as much as 100” of snow accumulation annually with summers shorter than the northernmost parts of Alaska. ”Winter” months are those of total darkness and the lore carries on of an unseen creature who works in the cloak of darkness mysteriously channeling weather patterns in the direction of Wheeling, Illinois, some 40 miles east.
