Fred is an unincorporated community in southeastern Tyler County, Texas, United States.
Fred is approximately 40 miles north of Beaumont and is located in the Big Thicket.
The community has no traffic lights and 55 is the only city speed limit, except during school traffic hours. Fred is home to one convenience store, Fred Grocery which has a deli. There are two Baptist churches and several other churches of various denominations. Fred has a health care clinic with a physician's assistant. Hunting (wild hog and deer) and fishing are favorite pastimes of the residents of Fred.
There are few jobs in Fred. Men work in refineries and mills in neighboring cities (Beaumont, Port Arthur). The logging industry is also a primary source of employment for people in the area. Women primarily teach school or stay home with their children.
The Annual Fred Halloween Carnival that has been supporting Fred Elementary for over 50 years and the Little Leagues Mayfest and Parade are the towns biggest festivals.
The Warren Independent School District serves area students. School children attend Fred Elementary School until they reach sixth grade, or can attend other public schools in Spurger or Silsbee. They are then bussed to nearby Warren for junior high and high school. Little League Baseball is very popular with the youth in Fred. And in 2007, Warren ISD introduced a pee wee football league to include Fred children.
Author, and former Fred resident, Brad Whittington wrote a trilogy of novels based in Fred, Texas.
Haunted Hill Haunted House established in 1977,located on Atlantic Pumpstation Road is the oldest running haunt in Southeast Texas and is free to community.
Fred Texas is home to the Hall of Fame Southern Sunshine and Southern Nightmare Monster Trucks owned and driven by Gary Davis of Fred.

Fred is the home and burial place of NFL legend and Super Bowl contender John Elliot who played for the New York Jets. Fred is home and burial place for Glenn Gordan who played lead guitar for Country Music artist Mark Chestnut of Beaumont Texas.
