While the rural nature of the community is pleasant and fairly healthful, the village is about four miles away (not within walking distance). There is no door-to-door public transportation except for school buses. I drive wherever I need to go, but since I live on a private road, walking is safe and provides good exercise. In the nearby Village of Washingtonville there is a very friendly pharmacy with coffee shops on either side, a good library, both Protestant and Catholic Churches, a small gym, and a small supermarket (Stop and Shop). In the same plaza as the supermarket are a post office, a CVS pharmacy (not as user friendly, unfortunately) , a Chinese restaurant, and a nail salon. Other businesses in town include: several auto repair shops, a tavern, a Subway eatery, a Dunkin Donuts, an Auto Zone, a credit union and various banks. There is also a park along the Moodna Creek, ball fields, and a playground. Most are within walking distance. The population is largely Caucasian, with some Hispanic families and a few Black residents. Taxes are unusually high, especially school taxes. People of all ages populate Washingtonville, but property owners tend to be upper middle class or upper class and middle aged. There are several apartment complexes, a high school, a middle school, a church-affiliated elementary school within walking distance and three elementary public schools on the outskirts of the town, There is good community engagement through the Catholic Church, but I see little evidence of other community events, although this may be due to concern of transmission of the Covid 19 virus. I see little corruption and few incidences of unlawful activity such as theft or burglary, etc. People tend to walk about freely and without trepidation at being alone. I hope this provides an adequate description of the community.
