Sausalito is a city in Marin County, California. Located 8 miles (13 km) south-southeast of San Rafael, at an elevation of 13 feet (4 m), and is located 4 miles (7 km) north of San Francisco. Sausalito's population was 7,061 as of the 2010 census. The community is situated near the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge, and prior to the building of that bridge served as a terminus for rail, car, and ferry traffic. Sausalito developed rapidly as a shipbuilding center in World War II, with its industrial character giving way in postwar years to a reputation as a wealthy and artistic enclave, a picturesque residential community (incorporating large numbers of houseboats), and a tourist destination, and is adjacent to, and largely bounded by, the protected spaces of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Sausalito is a small town. It has all resources one needs. There's a great Mollie Stone market. If you bank with Wells Fargo, it's an easy 35-40 minute walk to the bank. There's a bike path you can walk or bike, it's recently had a new layer of asphalt laid down and it's now in great shape. I walk it 4-5 times each week. I love living here because you get to know your neighbors walking down the dock to your home. Not like in the suburbs, you get in your auto, push the garage door opener, back out, and push the button again to close the garage door. Now you wave to your neighbors as you drive by on your way to work. Someone will place a notice on the bulletin board in the lobby, announcing a get-together -bring munchies and drinks to share. I've been on crutches since the beginning of the year. Some of my neighbors have offered to go pick up groceries for me. Or take me to my knee doctor's appointment and wait to take me back home.
