Hettinger ( HET-ing-gər) is a city in, and the county seat of, Adams County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 1,226 at the 2010 census. North Dakota State University operates a livestock research station near Hettinger, which often partners with South Dakota State University's Antelope Range and Livestock Research Station for sheep research.

This is a very small rural town of about 1,500 people. They have been very open to older people having career opportunities. The older people generally are the ones that do most of the community direction and involvement. There are plenty of small homes that are affordable for older individuals. There is also a clinic and hospital that is very well respected.
