Canfield is a suburban city located in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States, at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and State Route 46/U.S. Route 62, about ten miles southwest of Youngstown. The population was 7,515 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2005 Canfield was rated the 82nd best place to live in the United States by Money magazine.

For jobs, this area is not age friendly at all. Unless you have a car you cannot get to shopping centers or mall areas unless you have a car. There are three parks, the fairgrounds, in the streets around the square for walking. People are generally friendly.

This is a depressed area where unemployment is higher than in a lot of places. If you are near or around 50 employers are taking advantage of the situation and letting them go. I don't care what industry it is, older experienced workers are being let go For no reason other than health insurance policies go up. Once you were let go good luck in finding a job in this area. If you find a job it's at minimum wage and less than 20 hours a week. It's absolutely horrible since these people are in the prime of their careers.

How did Ohio earn the grade of C? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. Ohio has a state sales tax of 5.75%. Of particular interest is that Ohio does not have taxes on social security. There are no estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance. Ohio has an effective property tax rate of 1.56%. Weighing these taxes and other taxes most likely to impact the aging population is how Ohio earned its state tax grade of C.
