Spokane Valley is a city in Spokane County, Washington, United States, and the largest suburb of Spokane. It is located east of Spokane, west of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and surrounds the town of Millwood on three sides. The city incorporated as the City of Spokane Valley on March 31, 2003. The Washington State Office of Financial Management estimates the city’s population as 94,919 as of 2015. Spokane Valley is named after the valley of the Spokane River, in which it is located. Before becoming an incorporated city, the area was and still is referred to as "The Valley" by residents of the Spokane Metro Area.

In Spokane Valley there are many elderly care facilities. We have senior centers around Spokane, bowling leagues, and things that are age appropriate.

I feel the community helps to incorporate age friendly topics, solutions, and ideas

Most of the other residents are around my age, dating and going to college. I would also say some residents are married with children.

It's very busy roads which may make it difficult to drive. There doesn't seem to be a lot of things to do outside the home, and not a lot of paths to walk on. People seem friendly enough.

How did Washington earn the grade of B? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. Washington has a state sales tax of 6.50%. Of particular interest is that Washington does not have taxes on social security. There are estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance. Washington has an effective property tax rate of 1.06%. Weighing these taxes and other taxes most likely to impact the aging population is how Washington earned its state tax grade of B.
