The city of Mesquite is a suburb located east of Dallas, Texas. Most of the city is located in Dallas County. As of the 2015 census, the population was 144,788, making it the twentieth most populous city in the state of Texas. Mesquite is positioned in the crossroads of four major highways (Interstates 30, 635, 20 and U.S. Highway 80), making locations, such as Downtown Dallas, Lake Ray Hubbard, Dallas Love Field and DFW International airports, accessible. According to legislative action, the city is the "Rodeo Capital of Texas". In 2016, Mesquite received a Playful City USA designation, for the fourth year in a row. The city has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation, for over 25 years. The city of Mesquite holds the 10th longest reign in all of Texas.

Mesquite is very age-friendly they have recreational departments for the seniors over 60 for lunches out fun activities even dancing on a certain night we have Apartments we have homes available we have Assisted Living

This town is so quite first of all, you don't see many young kids (unless they are coming home from college) We have a mall that's always packed. That's where they all do. Everywhere else is quite, people mind their own business, and it's a great place to raise a family.

How did Texas earn the grade of B? We examined the state taxes based on how age friendly they are. Texas has a state sales tax of 6.25%. Of particular interest is that Texas does not have taxes on social security. There are no estate taxes. There are no taxes imposed on inheritance. Texas has an effective property tax rate of 1.86%. Weighing these taxes and other taxes most likely to impact the aging population is how Texas earned its state tax grade of B.
