Very low crime rate, walkable routes at all hours to small grocery and convenience store/gas stations. Affordable housing and services for the most part are available. Senior center includes a salad bar M-F limited hours for all ages, other restaurants are diner, chinese, mexican, pizza, subway. Limited work for seniors --the college will not hire seniors in favor of those younger who can have a longer career. Other employment is basic minimum wage stuff. Friendly environment, one nature trail through the "gullies", some biking routes and a town bicycling group. Churches are active and serve as community centers. For living wage you must drive 45 minutes into larger area like Belleville or St Louis

Generally livable town with small grocery store and gas stations, a few fast food type restaurants and Mexican and Chinese sit down as well as a movie theater. Home prices are reasonable, but not much work is available outside the small college and prison, and its a drive minimum of 45 miles into the city areas of Belleville or St Louis. Bikeable in good weather, Walkable to grocery and gas stations, small college and town center. 30 minutes to the nearest Walmart via car, some public transport irregularly and not at night. Health care at small local will not take all types of insurance but will take Medicare. We go into St Louis for health care and work. Town is pet friendly, several churches and a senior center service the people. Veterans have Amvets and VFW activities
