To be sure, Boyertown Pennsylvania is a lovely little town with all the ammenities needed to live. It is a bedroom community in that the people are nice and friendly yet you don't usually develop close relationships with the people if you were not born here. Not to say it doesn't happen but you go your way and they go theirs and sometime the two meet up, other times they don't.
General Livability: Where I live is somewhat rural but with every conceivable place to take care of one's needs. For instance, there are three food stores nearby along with a Walmart supercenter. There's a gas station/auto repair shop within walking distance as is the post office and two doctor's offices, a Medicine Shop pharmacy, a law office, library, church, art studio with classes, jewelry/craft store, book store and a few smaller stores along two of the main roads. There are also two diners, a couple banks and a strip mall with a CVS, Dollar Tree, Big Lots and another store I can't remember along the main road. Across from there is a large hardware store, Hallmark, phone store, etc.
Working: Other than at the place previously mentioned, most people have to drive a bit to get to workplaces not centrally located. However, living about 15 minutes from one city (Pottstown) about 40 minutes from another (Reading), and the same amout of time to get to the Coventry Mall offers some options depending on one's career goals. I have heard of some people who drive to Philadelphia to work, getting up at 4:30 am to get to that city by 7:30 am! Definitely not something I am willing to do at this stage of my life!
Transportation: Is non-existent without a automobile.
Education: Other than nearby elementary and high schools that require most students be bused to, it is required to drive to a community college and farther to a university.
Community Engagement: There are parades for Halloween and Thanksgiving/Christmas that offer people the chance to bring their chairs out to see and watch the parade go by. At surrounding area farms there are tractor pulls and different shows that are more for those engaged in such activities and where food can be purchased from locally grown farmers along with landscaping possibilities. In addition, there is a drive to Hawk Mountain to view the large number of hawks in that area, a local raceway in the summer, and drives to other places that offer camping, horse riding lessons, etc.
Care: There is a nearby nursing home, a couple of low-income senior living places that are not too big or imposing so as to keep the small town feel, and a couple of home nursing agencies that assist those with home care. There are a number of hospitals in the cities mentioned (Reading Hospital, St. Joseph's, Pottstown, and a little farther is Phoenixville and farther away, Lehigh Hospital).
