Bluefield is a city in Mercer County, West Virginia, United States.

The population was 10,447 at the 2010 census. It is the core city of the Bluefield WV-VA micropolitan area, which has a population of 107,342.

Geography

Bluefield is located at 37°15′44″N 81°13′7″W (37.262219, -81.218674) in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia across the state border from Bluefield, Virginia.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.86 square miles (22.95 km2), all land.

 

Transportation

Rail


The last passenger train was the Catlettsburg, Kentucky to Washington and Boston Hilltopper train of Amtrak, which was terminated in sweeping cuts in 1979.

Until 1977 Amtrak's Mountaineer operated from Chicago and Cincinnatil, through Bluefield, and then through lower Virginia to Norfolk, Virginia. Into the 1960s the Norfolk and Western Railroad operated trains from the Mid-West to the metropolitan Norfolk-Newport News, Virginia area, and Bluefield City was a stop.

Road

U.S. Route 19, U.S. Route 460, U.S. Route 21 and U.S. Route 52 run through the city. Interstate 77 is a short distance to the east. Proposed and under construction are interstates Interstate 73 and Interstate 74 labeled as King Coal Highway.

Air

General Aviation service is provided at Mercer County Airport, located off State Highway 123 between Bluefield and Princeton. The last commercial service ended in 2007.

It's a small town where everyone knows everyone for the most part. Living is cheaper here than ANYWHERE... And it's always somewhere hiring or doing something.

Alot of people here will speak to u when u speak to them

Mostly elderly live here. We all pull together when someone is sick and/or if they just need someone to talk too. A natural disaster, a few years ago , brung us all together.We all are a neighborhood watch team. We all believe in Jesus and know He is the One that protects us from harm and danger.
